Subscriptions
As of next week I will be charging a £5 monthly subscription fee in order to read this newsletter. As I said last week, I believe in people getting paid for their labour and whilst this newsletter is a labour of love for me it is still labour. So if you value my work, please do subscribe.
Spiritual Reading
As of next week I will begin to serialise certain Catholic devotional books and novels which are out-of-print in an effort to give them new life. The instalments will most probably be included within the body of the newsletter, as I do not want to inundate the email inboxes of my followers. To my mind this seems like a better idea than having them in podcast format (which was my original idea). I shall begin with Lady Chatterton’s translation of Fr Giuseppe Frassinetti’s The Consolation of the Devout Soul.
Summer Break
Pure in Heart, Corpus Christi Prayer Group, and Soul Food are currently on summer break for the month of August. Soul Food will start meeting again on Thursday 9th September with an opening Mass.
Mass at Fountains Abbey
Last Friday Fr Richard Duffield, Provost of the York Oratory, celebrated Mass at Fountains Abbey (a World Heritage Site) in honour of the feast of St Bernard of Clairvaux, founder of the Cistercian order. Fountains Abbey was a medieval Cistercian monastery, before it was dissolved by Henry VIII during the dissolution of the monasteries. It is wonderful that Mass is now celebrated on this site, but it is good practice whenever visiting sites that were once places of Catholic worship to recite an ‘Our Father’, a ‘Hail Mary’, and a ‘Glory be’ for the repose of the souls of past worshippers and in reparation for any wrongs committed there. A confraternity which encourages this practice is the Society of St Justin Martyr.

Quote of the Week
“You think you are really somebody: your studies - your research, your publications; your social position - your name; your political accomplishments - the offices you hold; your wealth; your age…no longer a child! Precisely because of all this, you - more than others - need a director for your soul.”
St Josemaria Escriva, The Way, 63
